The Bardo Museum is housed in a 13th century Hafsid Palace and "contains a major collection of Roman mosaics and other antiquities of interest from Ancient Greece, Tunisia, and from the Islamic period. The museum also displays objects ranging from pre-historical artefacts to modern jewellery." It has been undergoing major renovations since October 2010 so much of the collection is not currently on display and visitors are admitted at a reduced price. Despite this, it is still possible to get an idea of the beauty and the grandeur of the Roman mosaics so laboriously put together. Here are some of my favourite pieces from the existing rather limited collection.
The link below is of a website in French which has detailed photographs with descriptions of some of the key pieces from the collection which were obviously photographed prior to the current major renovations.
