Help From Home (home based micro-volunteer actions)

Here is a novel initiative I heard about on the BBC in an article entitled,
"Digital do-gooders: Why do we help strangers online?  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-24207047
Help From Home enables people to donate their time to do voluntary work from the comfort of their home.  The types of work varies from Advocacy based - for example signing petitions, campaigning for a cause, Country - provides a list of countries where your actions can benefit its citizens, environment or its economy, Do Good - this heading features actions that fall under this category, Green - this heading features actions which help the environment and also includes jobs in animal welfare, Popular causes and Quickies
I contacted the Help From Home organisation as I wanted to do a blog post about them in order to spread the word about their worthwhile organisation.  Like many expatriates around the world I am unable to work in the country where we are currently living as I am not granted a work permit so I felt this organisation would be a good way for me to give back to society by doing voluntary work from home.  By highlighting this organisation I hope that many other people around the world expatriates, retirees, housewives, people who may be house-bound recovering from an illness and people who are currently unemployed will be encouraged to follow-up in order to join forces for a good cause and to make the world a better place.

Founded in 2008, Help From Home is a volunteer driven, unincorporated association that runs a free community service to promote and encourage participation in easy, no commitment, micro-volunteering opportunities where a spare 10 seconds to 30 minutes is all that is needed to help out worthy causes. It is considered to have the largest known directory of current active non-skilled micro-volunteering opportunities in the world. It does not run any of the actions featured on the site - it merely showcases them from 3rd party initiatives.
What is Micro-volunteering? Volunteer your time in bite sized chunks, from your own home, on demand and on your own terms. Benefit worthy causes to suit your lifestyle. Dip in and dip out with absolutely no commitment. Skilled/non-skilled actions available. It’s all FREE! And, oh yeah, you can do them in your pyjamas! Micro Effort, Macro Impact.
