|Wooden puppets on sale at the Medina in Tunis.|
These wooden puppets are a curious Tunisian souvenir. It is possible to see them on sale at almost all of the tourist haunts. They depict the image of warriors - men armed with swords, metal armour and a shield. The head is carved out of wood and in most cases the painted facial features include a lot of facial hair in the form of bushy eyebrows, beards and moustaches. Whilst the rest of the body is made up of a combination of wood and wire. They are not particularly child-friendly as the metal armour tends to be full of sharp edges. However, they are colourful and unusual and they do make an interesting gift.
