Types of bread: baguettes

The cost of bread is subsidized in Tunisia which means that everyone even people on a low income can afford to buy bread.  One of the most popular types of bread is known as a "baguette".  Baguettes were first introduced to North Africa with the French colonization (1881-1956) and it inevitably led to a change in the Tunisian diet whereby baguettes became the preferred choice of bread and took over from the more traditional types of breads that women used to bake at home in traditional ovens.
