Pittosporum tobira is a common, hardy perennial plant which is used in amenity horticulture here in Tunis. It has glossy, tough leaves with a wavy margin. It can be grown as a shrub or a small tree and is widely used in hedges, in planter boxes and the stems, leaves and dried fruits are used in flower arrangements. Many cultivars have been developed, including dwarf forms and the popular 'Variegata', which has variegated leaves. All parts of plant are poisonous if ingested. Handling the plant may cause skin irritations or allergic reactions.
